Matthew(2) Heery 1870 ‑ 1948. Heerys

Matthew Heery was the fifth child of James and Mary. (Their first‑born was also christened Matthew but he died after a few weeks. It was not uncommon for the same name to be used in a family after be death of a child in infancy.) His three children were Mary, James and Katie; Mary married Bob Carter, James married Katy McGuire and Katie married Freddie Workman.

Matthew was married twice. His first wife was Mary Ann Valentine (sometimes written as Ballantyne). She was the mother of Mary, James and Katie and is thought to have died giving birth to still‑born twins in 1897. After her death the children were looked after by the grand‑parents and their aunts, as well as by Mary Jane Brady who became Matthew's second wife on 25 April 1901. She had been Mary Ann's bridesmaid at Matthew's first marriage on 26 May 1890.
